Het stadje Cres is de grootste plaats op het gelijknamige eiland. Het ligt aan een goed beschermde baai aan de westkant van het eiland. Prehistorische bouwwerken en de antieke vesting Crepsa getuigen van de lange en rijke geschiedenis van het eiland. <\/p>\n

Het oude centrum, omgeven door rechthoekige stadswallen met vijf torens en enkele stadspoorten, werd aangelegd voor het einde van de Venetiaanse heerschappij. Er is wel iets aangebouwd sindsdien, maar het centrum ziet er grotendeels nog net zo uit als toen.<\/p>\n

Lopend door het centrum ervaar je dus de Mediterrann\u00e9e zoals die eens was. Je volgt het spoor van onze voorouders, die een cultuur opbouwden die ons ook nu nog raakt.\u200b<\/p>\n

Dit plaatsje ligt op maar liefst 378 meter boven zee. In de middeleeuwen was het van buitengewoon strategisch belang.<\/p>\n

Je zult zeker gecharmeerd worden door de kronkelende straatjes, talloze kerkjes en de ru\u00efnes van de middeleeuwse stadswallen en stadspoorten. Dat kan misschien alleen nog maar worden overtroffen door het spectaculaire uitzicht op de zee. <\/p>\n

Dit oorspronkelijke plaatsje ligt tussen twee kiezelstranden en werd gebouwd en bewoond door generaties vissers en handarbeiders.<\/p>\n

Het vertelt het eeuwenlange verhaal van het leven aan zee. Van speciaal belang is de plaat van Valun, die werd gevonden in de kerk Sveti Marko. Het is een van de oudste monumenten in het glagolitische schrift en dateert uit de elfde eeuw. <\/p>\n

In Beli wemelt het van de bouwwerken die getuigen van haar rijke verleden.
